I like the emphasis of the stars hanging on the trees, up on the church, and the crowd of people.
By simply looking at the picture without captions, it is hard to figure out whether it was morning or night. Yet, because the sky is dark, the stars seem to stand out even more .
b) Explain what the event is. What is the significance of the event/photo?
The event is taking place in Manila, Philippines. Thousands of people attended the morning mass to celebrate the beginning of Christmas. Attending the early morning mass for nine consecutive days leading to Christmas is a religious tradition in Philippine. I can't imagine that happening in here where thousands of people gather together for several days until Christmas outside.
c) Describe the photos, how does the image document the event/ how does the image tell the story?
Since there are priests having mass in the altar outside and crowds of people sitting, looking towards the altar, I can figure out that it is the special mass for Christmas. Especially, the decoration of the stars makes it clear that it is close to Christmas.
d) Identify the main subject and what emphasizes it. (Leading lines, repetition, rule of thirds, contrast, framing).
I think the main subjects are people and stars. The contrast b/w the stars and the dark background, as well as the repetition of the stars and people emphasize the subject.

The people in this picture are Pakistani Christians who are holding cross, praying for the peace in the new year.
c) Describe the photos, how does the image document the event/ how does the image tell the story?
I can feel how desperately these people are wishing for the peace in Pakistan through their impressive, serious expression. Since there are so much wars have been happening in Pakistan, it is no doubt that the Christians in this country would deadly wish for the end of the war, waiting for the peace.
d) Identify the main subject and what emphasizes it. (Leading lines, repetition, rule of thirds, contrast, framing).
The main subject seem to be the cross people are holding and the candles in front. Also, I noticed that the frame created by two cross emphasize the firm grip and serious expression of the man.

Recently, I watched a documentary about the life in Tonj, Sudan. In this documentary, since the people in Sudan are so used to hardship, poverty, and diseases, they merely cry. However, in this picture, I can see the man's eyes are wet and feel that this man is deeply moved.

c) Describe the photos, how does the image document the event/ how does the image tell the story?
Although the men behind the soldier are all blurred, it is quite clear that all the soldiers lined up for the rehearsal. Also, teary eyes of the soldier in front tells us that the event is very significant for him.
d) Identify the main subject and what emphasizes it. (Leading lines, repetition, rule of thirds, contrast, framing).
The main subject is the soldier in front and the way he is emphasized is repetition. (there are some indications at the background although they are blurred.)
